Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Automotive Technology Certificate
The Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) — Certified Master Automobile Technician Certificate will help students gain employment in various fields including Automotive Service Technician and Mechanics and Electronic Equipment Installers and Repairers for Motor Vehicles.
The Automotive Technology program prepares students to earn the ASE Certified Master Automobile Technician Certificate (A1 – A8). Testing is administered through ASE and requires registration to take online tests. Exam cost is estimated at $700 or $87/exam, though cost, dates and times vary. The certification program includes comprehensive training for:
- A1 - Engine Repair
- A2 - Automatic Transmission/Train & Axles
- A3 - Manual Drive Train & Axles
- A4 - Suspension & Steering
- A5 - Brakes
- A6 - Electrical/Electronic Systems
- A7 - Heating & Air Conditioning
- A8 - Engine Performance
Additionally, AUTO 139J – Electronic Instrument Certification course prepares students for three different Snap-on Tools certifications which are administered through College of Marin:
- Automotive Scanner Diagnostics Certification
- Mechanical and Electronic Torque Instrument Certification
- Multimeter Certification
All automotive classes are offered at the Indian Valley Campus.

Requirements
- To qualify for a Certified Master Auto Technician Certificate, students must successfully complete the Automotive Technology program and obtain a minimum of 2 years of relevant college-level training or 1 year of work experience.
- To qualify for any of the three Snap-on Tools certifications, students are best prepared by successfully completing Auto 139J – Electronic Instrument Certification.
